Friends and work mates of Mark Smith have pooled their talents to created a memorial garden in the Canberra Community Dialysis Centre (CCDC) at Garran.
Mark was a patient at the Centre for a number of years, but passed away in May last year. He was a partner with his father in a landscaping business.
Mark always wanted to landscape an area of the Centre that patients could see during their periods of dialysis, but was never well enough to do the work.
Around 15 landscapers specialising in many aspects of gardening decided that they would carry out the work in memory of Mark on the first anniversary of his death.
The landscaping will work around existing trees, adding plants, flowers, perennials, rocks, a water feature, aboriginal paintings and decorative poles. The plants and flowers will attract birds to the area adding to the garden.
Staff at the Centre were very supportive of the landscapers, providing refreshments during the day. A plaque naming the Mark Smith Memorial Garden was unveiled by some of his friends and Centre staff members.
