- Some good container bulbs are hyacinths, daffodils, jonquils, and tulips or try some different bulbs such as Brodiaea 'Queen Fabiola' or Lachenalia 'Quadricolor'
- Plant them away from the edge of the pot which can get very hot
- Place tulip bulbs in fridge crisper (not the freezer) for at least 4 weeks before planting
- As a guide, plant bulbs twice as deep as the bulb is tall and the same distance apart. The pointy end of the bulb should be up except for anemone and ranunculi which you plant pointy end down!
- Apply bulb food once leaves have sprouted and just after flowering
- Most bulbs require full sun to light shade. Heavier shade will produce taller stems and the reverse happens in full sun
- Bulbs that do well in filtered shade are anemones, lachenalias, crocus, tulips, daffodils, bluebells, Cuban lilies, hyacinths and grape hyacinths
- Bulbs that do well in full sun are anemones, freesias, alliums, ixias, hyacinths, brodiaea, ranunculi, Dutch iris, daffodils, lachenalias, grape hyacinths, sparaxis and gladioli.
Note: some do well in either position
- For a greater visual effect plant some English daisies, viola’s, polyanthus or primulas as fillers
- Be careful not to over water or the bulbs may rot
