Garden Pests and Diseases |
- Spray azaleas and rhododendrons for lace bug and thrips with Confidor or MaxGuard as the new leaves emerge, (check your viburnum hedge for thrips and spray if necessary) making sure to spray both surfaces of the leaves. For a non-chemical option, spray with a plant-based oil such as eco-oil
- Roses, peaches, hellebores and many other shrubs may suffer from aphids in early spring. These can be removed by hand or sprayed with eco-oil. Add 20 ml of Seasol to a 5 L sprayer at the same time as the eco-oil to kill the pest and strengthen the plant at the same time
- Black spot on roses may be a problem in wet weather so spray with Triforine. Make sure to remove infected leaves and dispose of them in the garbage, not the compost
- If your peach or nectarine has developed leaf curl, remove the affected leaves and dispose of them in the garbage, not the compost. Feed with Blood & Bone to encourage more leaf growth.
- Control snails with a pet-friendly bait or use a beer trap.
