Things to do
  • Dead head the roses to keep them blooming into autumn
  • Spray the roses for Black Spot and powdery mildew with Yates Fungus Fighter or, if they also have insect problems such as aphids, with a product such as Yates Rose Shield
  • Sweep neglected areas and position a newly renovated pot or two and it feels like a new area altogether. Pots in groups of three or five look great either by using repetition with the same plants or a selection of herbs for quick access when preparing a salad.
  • Put out snail traps (saucers of beer) or snail bait but do not leave it where dogs can get to it. Some dogs will eat anything!
  • Spray Confidor or MaxGuard on azaleas, rhododendrons or any plants that have ants crawling on them. This will control sap suckers (scale, thrips, azalea lace bug and aphids). Try Confidor tablets for smaller shrubs.
